This heritage listed home has been artfully revived to meet the needs of modern family life.

 

The owners of this 1900s weatherboard fell in love with its history and charm, but to make it liveable, it needed a full scale renovation. They were after plenty of living space along with an office and storage space for their business, and a self contained unit above this for parents who live overseas but stay annually. The idea was that they can all be together for extended periods, without getting in each other’s way!

 

With a heritage overlay to honour, we retained the period street frontage and as many internal features as possible, from ornate fireplaces to detailed cornicing. For the office and studio, we created a freestanding building at the rear using Brunswick red brick in a nod to the area’s industrial past.  

A heritage revival designed for today’s family, preserving character and detail, while creating versatile spaces for living, working, and welcoming loved ones from near and far.

This design brings beachside elegance to Elwood, exemplifying smart use of space on a compact block.

 

Living just streets from Elwood Beach, the owners of this home wanted to capture a coastal feel mixed with urban practicality. Despite a compact block, they needed plenty of relaxed living space, bedrooms fit for a growing family, and natural light.

 

Milton created distinct zones including a parent’s retreat and children’s rooms with adjacent play areas. An internal staircase flanked by floor to ceiling glass creates light in a place that would otherwise be closed in.

 

The busy family desired an off street car park, but the home originally didn’t have a driveway. With smart design, we were able to unlock a suitable position, and we secured council approval for a driveway to connect to the street.

Elwood Home

This inner Melbourne home defies its small block size to deliver four bedrooms and soaks up city views from the roof top entertaining space.

 

Loving life in Richmond, the owners of this home wanted to stay put, so they needed a design for this narrow block that could accommodate a growing family. They needed four bedrooms and two living spaces without feeling boxed in.

 

Milton worked with their vision, site constraints, and local heritage preservation requirements to create a clever design that maximised every inch of land. We crafted a basement for functional rooms, a peaceful bedroom sanctuary on the ground floor, and a light filled entertaining area upstairs, enabling everything that the family needed.

 

Drawing on Richmond’s industrial past, we featured exposed brick walls, open treads on the staircase, and created a desirable rooftop terrace for entertaining family and friends with city views.
